Clothing choices and growing up?

My oldest, a 14-year-old boy, has never liked dressing up. He dislikes anything other than jeans and a t-shirt. He will wear something "nice" to church–black jeans and a polo shirt, but that’s as dressy as he willingly will get. However, yesterday while shopping, a new, more mature side of him showed up, at least briefly.

He has to work at our church’s Valentine Dinner as a server and he is supposed to wear black pants and a red or white shirt. Since he’s outgrown almost all his clothes, I had to take him shopping for something to wear. I expected him to go for the black jeans and a polo shirt. However, he surprised me and wanted dress pants and a button-up shirt (but said he won’t wear the tie that came with the shirt). Maybe he’s growing up a bit?
