I just remembered that it’s Saturday and that means it’s time to post my Bible in a Year for the week. I got the reading done, just forgot about posting.
I started the week with the death of Joshua. From there, it was into the Judges, and a familiar pattern showed up. The Israelites would stray from God, an enemy would make their lives miserable, they’d cry out to God, and He would send a judge. Just like in the desert, the Israelites would forget about all that God had done for them and go their own way.
A lot of their problems with their enemies were the result of their disobedience. God told them to totally wipe out everyone in the land. However, the Israelites chose to leave a few, were tricked once into leaving some, and these people became thorns to them in time. If we disobey God, there are consequences. He knew what was best for the Israelites and how they would stray if the baals and other gods were left in Canaan. He knows what’s best for us, too.
