Becoming a citizen

Over 6 months ago we sent in applications for both of our boys to become US citizens. 3 months ago, the Immigration department sent us the Citizenship certificate for our younger son, but nothing for Eric. It was OK that we got Greg’s first, since he needed to apply for a passport for his upcoming mission trip.

Now, 3 months later, we finally heard about Eric’s status. We got a letter saying he was to appear at the Immigration office this morning at 9:30 for an interview. He was supposed to take along a photo ID. The problem was that the only photo ID we have for him is his old Russian passport. Eric was 2 when the photo was taken.

We showed up this morning, and the interview wasn’t actually an interview. He was there to take the citizenship oath with several other teenagers. The meeting took less than 20 minutes, and we left there with the newest US citizen.

Now, both of the boys are legal citizens. WooHoo!!
